The Domino Effect of Discipleship
I can always tell when it’s time for Elementary Discipleship groups to begin. A palpable excitement buzzes through my first and sixth grade classrooms, followed by an eruption of enthusiastic chatter as high school Student Leadership Coalition (SLC) members flood into the elementary hallways.
That’s when I find myself wandering the corridors, taking in a scene that never fails to warm my heart: high schoolers sitting cross-legged on the floor beside wide-eyed first graders; sixth graders gazing intently at their dGroup leaders; bursts of contagious laughter punctuated by quiet moments of prayer. It’s something truly special to witness—a beautiful ecosystem of mentorship that requires significant planning and intentionality.
Throughout this school year, our High School SLC teachers and students have dedicated themselves to planning and leading monthly discipleship activities for my first and sixth grade classes. Their mission? To foster meaningful relationships with one another while deepening their connection with God. This powerful example hasn’t gone unnoticed—it has inspired my Elementary Student Leadership Coalition (ESLC) to develop their own student-led discipleship initiatives within our building.
The result is nothing short of beautiful: discipleship begets discipleship, creating a self-sustaining cycle of spiritual growth and leadership development. One candle lights another, which lights another, illuminating our entire school community.
As we wrap up another academic year, I celebrate the countless ways our school has intentionally created spaces for discipleship—within classroom walls, in small group discussions, during weekly chapel buddy times, and in so many other seen and unseen moments. Looking ahead to the coming year, my deepest prayer is that our hearts continue to beat with the desire to disciple students who will, in turn, disciple others.
And on and on it goes—a divine domino effect that extends far beyond what we can see or imagine.
