Book Fairs Are on the Way!

Reading Round Up

We are so excited to host our annual FRCS Book Fair, and it is happening earlier in the year than ever before! We are once again using a faith-based company, I:55, and can’t wait to see what titles they have chosen to send us.

IN ADDITION, we will be helping to pilot Scholastic’s new CHRISTIAN BOOK FAIR over parent-teacher conferences in November. We hope that you will visit BOTH fairs so that you can give us your feedback on how you’d like to see us plan for book fairs in the future. Students will not have access to the Scholastic Book Fair in November during the school day. They will only be able to visit with you.

Read on for some details that will help you plan as a family.

Opportunities to help make this Book Fair a success for our school:

  • Volunteer to help out, from Set-up to tear down. Visit the FRCS App for more details.
  • Supply treats for the teachers as they preview the Book Fair on September 17. See the FRCS App to sign up.
  • Come shop in person! Buy a book for your teacher’s classroom library. Buy books for your children. Start your Christmas shopping early!
  • Invite friends, family, and neighbors to check out and shop the fair online or in person! Watch for the link in the coming days.
  • Buy gift cards at https://i55bookfairs.com/products/i55-book-fairs-gift-card, print them out or forward to Suzy Eitzen (seitzen@frcs.org) to provide a cashless shopping experience for your child.

Shopping Hours:

  • Elementary Student shopping during the school day on September 18 and 21. Please send cash in a ziploc with student’s name in sharpie or use the I:55 gift card option described above.
  • Family shopping after school on September 21 & 22. Cash, checks, I:55 gift cards, and credit cards are welcome!
  • Parent-only shopping from 7:40-8:20 on September 21 & 22. Cash, checks, I:55 gift cards, and credit cards are welcome! When you arrive at school, send your child(ren) to their classes and join us downstairs in the FDC.

Book Fair Activities:

The homerooms are rallying to see which classroom can round up the most steers into their paddock and claim the prize. Each of the following activities will earn points for your child’s homeroom. This year, the teachers will be competing against the students as well for some good old fashioned fun.

  • Reading Challenge Aug. 24-Sept. 21: Read 20 minutes for 20 days before the book fair ends and earn points for your class!
  • Dress-Up Day on September 20: use the book fair’s theme Reading Round Up to dress up and celebrate the opening of the fair. Think ranch life or the Old West! Each student who participates will earn points for their class.
  • Door Decorating Contest on September 17: Each homeroom that participates will earn points for their class.
  • Each book fair purchase will earn points for that student’s homeroom.

At FRCS, students are challenged to think for themselves: to pursue questions of purpose and faith; to think critically about the world around them so that they can engage it, not avoid it; to make their faith their own so that they can remain strong in it even after they graduate
