Facilitate a 2027 J-Term Course

Dear FRCS Community,

We invite members of the FRCS community to volunteer as J-Term instructors on January 5–8, 2027. Students will learn by doing, explore their interests and gifts, and connect their learning to our mission of equipping them to impact the world for Christ.

What leading a course involves

If your proposal is selected and enough students enroll, you would:

  • Lead your course on ALL four days—Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday—in EACH session block you choose. You may propose one, two, or three daily blocks.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging, hands-on learning with time for students to reflect and discuss. J-Term should involve little or no homework.
  • Identify your materials, space, and technology needs in the proposal and prepare the course with FRCS before J-Term week.
  • Attend a brief Instructor Seminar with Mr. Wall and Mrs. Carlson to prepare for the week.

Most courses take place on campus and keep costs low; any course fee are intended to cover supplies. A course needs at least seven students enrolled to run. Selected courses will appear in the J-Term Catalog.

Daily J-Term schedule

  • Session A 8:00–10:00 a.m.
  • Session B 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
  • Lunch 12:15–1:00 p.m.
  • Session C 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Your proposal can request the block or blocks that fit your course and availability. The same selected block meets each day of J-Term.

Support from FRCS

If your J-Term course runs, an FRCS teacher liaison will be assigned to you. This teacher will be your point person for classroom setup, technology, and other school needs as you prepare and teach. You will lead the course content and learning activities, with an FRCS contact available to help you navigate the school setting.

Course ideas

High school courses may earn Fine Arts, Practical Arts, or PE elective credit. Junior high courses explore academics, arts, or athletics while building community, cooperation, and trust. Examples include photography, culinary arts, pickleball, improv, chess, and STEM challenges.

Propose a course

Please complete the J-Term Proposal Form by October 28. The form asks for your course idea, materials and space needs, and preferred session times. Submitting a proposal expresses your interest; we will confirm which courses can run after reviewing proposals and enrollment.

Propose a Course

Thank you for considering how you might share your gifts with FRCS students.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Wall

At FRCS, students are challenged to think for themselves: to pursue questions of purpose and faith; to think critically about the world around them so that they can engage it, not avoid it; to make their faith their own so that they can remain strong in it even after they graduate
