Editor’s note: Mona serves as a member of FRCS’s Board.
Greetings Front Range Community,
If we haven’t met, I’m a mom of two (one graduate and one current student), wife to Dan, and in my fourth year serving on the FRCS Board. I’ve written before about my gratitude for the education and spiritual partnership we’ve experienced at Front Range, but today I want to give you a picture of my experience as a Board volunteer — who we are and how we seek to lead.
I’ll begin with our Chair, Danny Cometto, husband to Kathleen. Danny has spent countless hours pouring into the school, even now that both of his children have graduated from FRCS. Danny is the guy who holds everything together on our Board. We are a governance Board. That means we are not to run the school day-to-day, but to define what the school must accomplish, for whom, and within what boundaries. In simpler terms, we are entrusted to guard the mission of Front Range and ensure it is actually being lived out. Danny has a deep understanding of governance, but more than that, he carries a steady commitment to seek God before acting. Everything Danny does in his Chair role is steeped in his faith and reliance on God.
Next, in terms of longevity, is Lance Ferrin, married to Carolyn. What a faithful guy Lance is to our school. His children have long graduated from Front Range as well, but Lance continues to serve out of conviction that this school matters. We keep asking him back, and he continues to faithfully serve. Lance holds firm principles and lives by them, and his consistency brings stability to the Board room.
Next up is Geoff Eliason, who is completing his fifth year of service on the Board. Geoff and Lisa are two of the first people we met at Front Range and, like our family, have an FRCS graduate and a junior at the school. Geoff Eliason helps ensure we are wise stewards of what God has provided. At the same time, Geoff has a BIG heart for mentoring. He encourages students to tap into Board knowledge and expertise. Geoff personally mentors young athletes in the weight room and pours into students interested in the financial sector as a career.
Jerry Nixon is completing his fourth year of service. Jerry and Kyndall‘s three daughters have all graduated from Front Range, and like Danny C. and Lance, he faithfully continues to give his time to our school. Jerry has led efforts to better understand and support our faculty and staff. His work on the recent staff survey was a way of listening carefully so that Board-level decisions reflect the real experiences of the people serving our students every day. The Board cares deeply about faculty experience, and Jerry is a champion of staff support.
Danny Erbaugh is in his third year of service. He and Sheri have past graduates and present attendees of FRCS. Danny brings pastoral perspective into the room. He asks hard questions and pushes us to think beyond the obvious. He also brings openness and vulnerability to the room, loving people openly and without hesitation.
And I am completing four years of service, beginning when I was called in to help establish a Board Community committee. I have the privilege of interacting with the on campus community, including educators, staff, and students. In addition to finding opportunities to reach out to students, particularly seniors, the Board strives to find meaningful ways to love our teachers, administrators, and staff throughout the year.
As we do this work — praying, wrestling, and seeking His clarity — we deeply desire to faithfully steward this school that belongs to God. We are committed to remaining aligned with the mission— partnering with families and the church in forming students who know truth, live it, and carry it into the world. The mission couldn’t be more important. Thank you, parents, students, staff, for being part of this community and supporting this charge. All glory to Him!
