Fine & Performing Arts Department

Overview

Mission

The mission of the Fine & Performing Arts department is to:

  • Guide students to understand that their gifts are unique in God’s creation and that artistic creativity can be a legitimate and truthful form of worship in any of its expressions: music, music technology, drama, speech, visual arts, dance, etc.)
  • Inspire students to use their gifts and passions to glorify God and bless others.
  • Encourage students to pursue artistic excellence in every discipline while acting justly, loving one another, showing mercy, and humbly walking before God (Micah 6:8).
  • Develop artistic skills and interpersonal abilities that will equip our students to become innovative leaders and impact the world of Christ.
  • Lead students into a safe, thriving, and rejoicing community through excellent performance and creative outlets.
  • Prepare students for the pursuit of a higher-level education in the arts.
  • Contribute to a well-rounded liberal arts education for every FRCS student.

Vision

The vision of the Fine & Performing Arts department is fostering a community that embraces creativity, leadership, and excellence through performance. We provide any student involved in the arts with:

  • Proper instruction and training
  • Multiple outlets and performance opportunities
  • Resources to excel in his/her area
  • An open and safe, Godly environment where they can express themselves through the arts
  • Entry-level classes and clubs where they can start training (beginners and students who haven’t been involved in the arts previously)
  • Advanced-level classes and clubs where advanced students can perfect and further develop their knowledge and skills (Music Theory, Ear Training & Rhythm Labs, High-performance ensembles, lead roles in musicals, etc.)
  • A variety of versatile classes and activities that provide a well-rounded liberal arts education, even for students who don’t want to specialize in the fine arts

Pillars of the Fine & Performing Arts Department

Critically thinking about/through sources, both primary and secondary, in an attempt to identify truth & create a balanced narrative.

  • “If we understand human history to be part of God’s general revelation of himself to his image-bearers, complementary to his special revelation in the Scriptures, there is much theology to be learned in the analysis of historical events.” – Wisdom & Eloquence
  • “to redeem and portray a balanced narrative through thoughtful analysis and judgment & to practice intellectual empathy.” – OG FRCS statement

Exposing students to multiple perspectives so that they can recognize the influential power of culture and engage in intellectual empathy.

Developing an understanding of civic duty and a desire within students to actively partake in American and global politics. We hope to cultivate students who are determined to impact culture as well as participate in it.

Preparing students to engage in the Great Conversation by fostering the ability to recognize the power of words, eloquently defend claims, and engage in public discourse with wisdom & charity.
