The Practical Arts exist to prepare well-rounded students to reflect the character of their Creator and think in a way that will impact and improve the kingdom of God in tangible and intangible ways.
Students will leave FRCS with the skills, experience, and knowledge to more effectively interact and improve the communities they engage in.
“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” ~ Genesis 2:7
Being made in the image of God means, among other things, that we have the God-given ability to materialize the invisible. Just as Yahweh created man out of the dust of the earth, so can we provide shape and meaning to the material in the world around us. The Practical Arts department exists for students to realize their birthright to create meaningful things. We will strive to create students who understand the importance of impacting the world for Christ and who do so by creating meaningful things for the world around them. It is our belief that every student should walk away from Front Range Christian School understanding why God has given them the tools necessary to create and transform the things around them.
“Wisdom is supreme; therefore, get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding” ~ Proverbs 4:7
We believe working practically with your hands and learning a skill takes experience over time. Experience does not present itself as a convenient linear path; instead, we encounter many problems, and usually problems that happen for the first time. The Practical Arts department sees problems as another means of gaining experience, skill, and wisdom when faced with steadfastness. We seek to grow the character of students by encouraging critical thinking, patience, and grit when faced with challenges. We see failure as a good thing and believe students ought to walk away ready to accept it, learn from it, and build upon their wisdom.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” ~ 1 Peter 4:10
The Lord has called each person to steward all gifts, talents, and resources that have been given to them. The Practical Arts department desires to help students unlock their skills and passions and foster growth in those areas so that students will be confident in the gifts that the Lord has given to them. With this confidence, we believe students will be prepared to generously steward all gifts, talents, and resources in a way that engages and blesses the community around them.
“He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsman, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers – all of them master craftsmen and designers.” ~ Exodus 35:35
Competent students are confident students. Whether executing a recipe, balancing a budget, or building out a project, our ultimate goal is to shape students into those who are confident in their skills. This encompasses the knowledge in how different tools and resources work, how to safely and appropriately use them, and how to discern when they should be used. The Practical Arts department seeks to build confidence in students so that they may move beyond Front Range Christian School effectively responding to problems with the skills to resolve.
