Facilitate a J-Term Course

Share your expertise!

Greetings FRCS Community,

We are looking for experts within the FRCS community who are interested in facilitating a J-Term course during the week of January 6-9, 2026.

J-Term is a week designed for students to engage in meaningful work that broadens their academic, experiential, and spiritual interests—augmenting the traditional academic experience at Front Range and advancing our mission of training and equipping students to impact the world for Christ.

That’s where you come in.

Our community is full of gifted individuals with unique expertise and passions, and you are invited to help inspire and equip our students by leading a J-Term course.

J-Term Purpose

J-Term is a time for students to step outside their usual classes and dive into hands-on learning that connects to their interests and God-given design. Courses should:

  • Encourage active participation and reflection
  • Be life-giving for the instructor and engaging for students
  • Help students grow as Christian scholars and culture-makers for Christ

Schedule

  • Session A: 8:00–10:00 a.m.
  • Session B: 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
  • Lunch: 12:15–1:00 p.m.
  • Session C: 1:00–3:00 p.m.

Facilitators may propose one, two, or all three sessions depending on the course design.

Course Guidelines

  • Classes meet each day (Tuesday–Friday).
  • Most courses will be on campus with minimal cost (fees only for supplies).
  • Senior High courses count toward elective credit (Fine Arts, Common Arts, or PE).
  • Junior High experiences emphasize community, cooperation, and trust, and explore academics, arts, and athletics.
  • Courses should emphasize experiential learning (doing, reflecting, and discussing) with little or no homework.

Sample Elective Categories

  • PE: Racquet Sports, Martial Arts, Dynamic Stretching, Cross Fitness, Pickleball
  • Fine Arts: Hip Hop Dance, Improv, Photography, Sewing, Musical Theater
  • Common Arts: Culinary Arts, Psychology, Web Design, C.S. Lewis Studies, Forensic Science
  • JH Athletics: Bowling, Skiing, Rock Climbing, Team Sports
  • JH Academics: Chess, Logic Puzzles, STEM Challenges, Escape Rooms
  • JH Arts: Baking, 3D Printing, Ukulele, Genesis Center Creation

How to Apply

If you are interested in facilitating a J-Term course, please complete the J-Term Course Proposal Form by October 27. The form will help you outline your course idea and identify materials, space needs, and your preferred session times.

COMPLETE FORM

Interested J-Term facilitators are also invited to join the FRCS staff on Monday, October 20, from 1-3pm for a collaborative session focused on the mission and vision of J-Term. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions, brainstorm ideas, and connect with others who are exploring course possibilities.

Facilitators will receive P3 hours for the week. Selected proposals will be included in the J-Term Catalog, and facilitators will attend a brief Instructor Seminar with Mr. Wall and Mr. Spector to prepare for the week.

Please note: Courses require a minimum enrollment of 7 students to run.

Example J-Term Course

Coloring, Conversation, and Community (Fine Arts Credit)

Instructor: Lia Wiersma Fee: None Grades: 9–12 Cap: 20

In these days of email, text, and chat, is face-to-face conversation becoming a lost art? Come learn five powerful conversation builders (and avoid conversation killers) while enjoying the relaxing rhythm of coloring. We’ll use the Dutch card game Vertellis to spark meaningful discussions—bring your favorite coloring supplies or use ours!

We can’t wait to see the creativity, passion, and expertise within our FRCS community come to life through J-Term. Thank you for partnering with us to inspire and equip the next generation of Christian leaders.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Wall

At FRCS, students are challenged to think for themselves: to pursue questions of purpose and faith; to think critically about the world around them so that they can engage it, not avoid it; to make their faith their own so that they can remain strong in it even after they graduate
