All State Choir Honors

Congratulations to several FRCS students who participated in All State Choir activities over three weekends last month! It is an honor to participate, and we are so proud of the students who were selected! Way to go, Falcons!

Elementary All State

At the elementary level 300 students from across Colorado participated. Students workshopped each day with clinicians Dene Byers from Durham’s Children’s Choir and Dr. Michael Chandler from Austin Peay University. Students performed on January 31 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. FRCS students included: Lucy Dulmage, Ella Bradley, Salem Woo, Caroline Fogg, Waverly Bowser and Grace Riffle.

Middle School All State

1,653 seventh and eighth grade students from around the state auditioned, and 545 students were selected (fewer than 1/3 of those who auditioned), and one FRCS student made the cut. At the middle school level, there are three different choirs, and Katherine Sutherland was selected for the Triplo choir! Her conductor was Dr. Clelyn Chapin from UNC. Students rehearsed Thursday, February 12, and Friday, February 13, at the Colorado Convention Center, then  performed Friday night at the Bellco Theater downtown.

All State Choir

For this prestigious choir, over 3,000 juniors and seniors from all over Colorado auditioned. Students must pass a second audition to ensure that they know their music. Around 900 were selected for three choirs, and one FRCS student was selected! Junior Kelsey Kramlich represented FRCS in the mixed choir under the direction of Jake Runestad, a Grammy-winning composer and sought after clinician. Over the weekend of February 5-7, students rehearsed downtown at the Embassy Suites and performed Saturday night at the Buell Theater.

What an incredible experience for these FRCS students to stretch their skills and work with top professionals in the choral field!

At FRCS, students are challenged to think for themselves: to pursue questions of purpose and faith; to think critically about the world around them so that they can engage it, not avoid it; to make their faith their own so that they can remain strong in it even after they graduate
