A word from … John DeYoung

Editor’s note: John DeYoung is the Director of Generosity at FRCS. His company also manages FRCS’s marketing. The photo shows John with his wife and two sons.

My story is a testament to the powerful, mysterious ways God’s provision and faithfulness work in our lives. At the age of 6, I was adopted from South Korea, but my journey began even earlier—when I was just 5 years old, I was found living on the streets. I had lived that way for over three years, living in uncertainty, not knowing if I would make it to see another day.

When my American family chose to invest in my future, everything changed. Their decision to bring me into their home, to believe in me, completely transformed my story. What once seemed impossible became a testament to God’s grace—changing the trajectory of my life and opening doors I never imagined possible.

Today, as I look upon my 4-year-old son, who is a student in the Early Childhood Education program at FRCS, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I see his teachers and all the people who pour into him—those who are shaping his heart, mind, and faith. I realize how deeply this impacts not just his life but the legacy that will follow. This is truly a generational impact.

God used my family to rewrite my story, and I believe the same is true for every life we touch. When I reflect on how my life was changed—how I was brought from darkness into His marvelous light—I see what real impact and transformation look like. It’s a ripple effect that reaches generations and transforms families.

That’s why I am committed to seeing lives changed—because ultimately, it’s what God has done in my life. Every story of impact through His grace reminds us of His power to transform, restore, and give hope. And I am passionate about creating spaces where that transformation can happen for others, just like it did for me.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story. It’s a testimony to God’s unfailing love and His ability to turn the impossible into the extraordinary.

Building Community: The Heart of FRCS

In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of community has taken on new dimensions. Yet, for those of us grounded in a Biblical worldview, building community is more than just social interaction; it’s a profound calling to reflect the love of Christ through our relationships and partnerships. At Front Range, we have a unique opportunity to come together, fostering an environment where grace, love, and service abound.

The Essence of Community

At its core, community embodies the principles of connection and support, reflecting the very nature of God. As we read in Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV): “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” This Scripture beautifully illuminates the necessity of gathering together, not merely for fellowship but to inspire and uplift one another. It challenges us to engage actively, to spur one another on in our walk with Christ.

At FRCS, community is not just a buzzword; it’s a lived experience. The school emphasizes the “heart of generosity” as a foundational principle, encouraging families and students to engage in acts of service and kindness. Through initiatives like the Parent Partnership Program (P3), Women’s Bible Study, Grandparents Day, Thanksgiving Celebration, Enduring Vision Events, You Matter Gala and many more, parents serve and gather alongside one another, strengthening bonds through volunteering, prayer groups, fundraisers and school events. This hands-on approach cultivates a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

The Role of Education and Partnership

Education is a cornerstone of community building. At FRCS, education isn’t just about academics; it’s about nurturing the whole person — spirit, mind, and body. Through collaborative learning experiences, students and families can foster deep relationships that extend beyond the classroom. When we engage in educational partnerships, we create a network of support that empowers us to share our gifts and talents for the common good.

Imagine a community where parents, teachers, and students come together in shared missions—mentoring, volunteering, and learning from one another. This is the essence of the body of Christ, working together harmoniously. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) reminds us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

When we recognize and celebrate our unique contributions, we cultivate an atmosphere of grace and love, where everyone feels valued and encouraged to participate.

Finding Your People at FRCS

In the quest for community, it’s crucial to find your people—those who share your values, beliefs, and aspirations. At FRCS, there is a vibrant tapestry of individuals who are eager to welcome you. Whether through Bible studies, events, service projects, or school events, there are countless opportunities to connect with others who are passionate about living out their faith.

The beauty of building community lies in the diversity of its members. Each person brings unique experiences and perspectives that enrich our collective journey. By engaging deeply with one another, we can strengthen our faith and impact our community positively.

A United Front

As we come together as a united front, our collective prayers and actions can create ripples of change in our community. We are called not just to exist but to thrive—together. By asking God to provide wisdom and direction, we can discern how best to serve one another and the wider community. The act of meeting together, sharing our struggles, victories, and testimonies can lead to profound transformations in our lives and those around us.

At FRCS, initiatives like The Enduring Vision Campaign and the annual Generosity for Generations Gala exemplify this heart of generosity, bringing the community together to support those in need. Events like these remind us that our collective efforts can have a significant impact, echoing the call to love and serve one another.

Conclusion

Building community in a Christian worldview is a beautiful journey of love, grace, and partnership. At FRCS, we have the unique opportunity to grow in our faith while supporting one another in our daily lives. Let us embrace this calling with open hearts, ready to share, educate, and uplift our community. Together, we can embody the love of Jesus and create an environment where everyone feels at home—a true reflection of His grace in action.

As we continue this journey, let us remember the words of Hebrews, encouraging one another as we seek to build a vibrant, united community. Together, we can answer the call to meet, engage, and grow—transforming not only ourselves but our entire community in the process.

At FRCS, students are challenged to think for themselves: to pursue questions of purpose and faith; to think critically about the world around them so that they can engage it, not avoid it; to make their faith their own so that they can remain strong in it even after they graduate
