ECE
Our youngest students have minimal access to iPads owned by the school. Preschool and PreK students use them for no more than 20 minutes per week. Kindergarten students use them up to two 30-minute sessions each week to access LEXIA (for the development of oral language, reading, spelling, and writing skills), for a total of no more than 60 minutes per week.
Elementary
Elementary classes at FRCS all have access to iPads owned by the school which are available on carts. All elementary teachers are encouraged to use the devices as part of their curriculum to begin teaching digital citizenship at an early age and to take advantage of the interactive and engaging natures of the devices as learning tools. These devices are shared with other students, so cases and apps are all provided by the school.
Junior High
Students in grades 7-8 are supplied with a school-owned Chromebook that they may use during school hours. The apps required for each class are already loaded on the Chromebook. The device is completely supervised and managed by FRCS. Families may want to purchase a device of some type for use by the student at home.
Senior High
Due to FRCS’s use of Google Classroom as a Learning Management System (LMS), each student grade 9-12 must have their own portable, technological device in order to access online resources and submit assignments to Google Classroom. Devices can include:
- an up-to-date iPad (must be able to run at least the second most recent iOS)
- an up-to-date Chromebook
- a laptop running Windows
- a MacBook
NOTE: Students may not use a phone as a technology device for classroom instruction.
The device must be capable of accessing Google Classroom and Google Docs and should have a battery life exceeding 6 hours, if possible.
