YMHFA Class for Parents

YMHFA Class for Parents

Since 2021, FRCS has offered Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) classes to all of our faculty and coaches. That same year, we began Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) classes for our 10th grade students as a regular part of their fall rhythm. We have seen both students and adults put their MHFA skills to work as they have walked alongside young adults experiencing mental health challenges.

This year, we offer this same YMHFA training to all FRCS parents. It provides valuable information for anyone who spends any amount of time with youth. In the course, you’ll learn about common mental health challenges that affect youth, how to differentiate between typical adolescent development and a mental health challenge, and practice a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), eating disorders, self-injury, and suicide.

The YMHFA course for parents is Saturday, August 30, on the FRCS campus. We begin at 8:30am and wrap up at 3:30pm. The cost for the course is $35 per adult and includes a Processing Guide, snacks, and certification. Everyone should bring a brown bag lunch. Registration (complete the form below) is open until Wednesday, August 27. Feel free to invite a neighbor or a friend!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Suzy Eitzen at seitzen@frcs.org.
