SUMMARY:Senior High Retreats
DESCRIPTION:Students grades 9-11 retreat with their classes for two days of community building\, adventure\, and setting the tone for the coming school year. Only the junior’s retreat is an overnight experience. \nJump to: 9th grade details | 10th grade details | 11th grade details | dress code specifics \n\n9th Grade Retreat Details\nThe focus of the 9th Grade Adventure and Community Building Retreat is Problem Solving. Through team challenges\, students develop skills in decision-making\, leadership\, goal-setting\, and conflict resolution. \nFor this retreat\, freshmen are divided into two groups. \nThursday\, August 21; 8am-3pm\n\nStudents meet at FRCS shortly before 8am and then ride together to their group’s experience\nGroup 1: Orienteering in Evergreen\nGroup 2: Escape Room in Denver\n\nFriday\, August 22; 8am-3pm\n\nStudents meet at FRCS shortly before 8am and then ride together to their group’s experience\nGroup 1: Escape Room in Denver\nGroup 2: Orienteering in Evergreen\n\nSpecifics for each experience:\n\nOrienteering day\n\nWhat students should bring:\n\nDay back pack with the items listed below\nFULL water bottle\nSnacks\nSack lunch\nAthletic shoes with closed toe and closed heel (REQUIRED)\nComfortable\, weather appropriate attire for an active day outside\nLayers for variable temperatures\nSun protection (sunglasses\, sunscreen\, hat\, etc.)\n\n\nStudents should not bring:\n\nSandals\, flip-flops\, crocs\, open-toe or open-heel shoes\ndangling jewelry and small valuables that might get lost\n\n\n\n\nEscape Room day\n\nWhat students should bring:\n\nWater bottle\nAthletic shoes (we will be walking quite a bit this day)\nSun protection\nMoney for lunch or a sack lunch\n\n\n\n\n\n \nNotes for parents:\n\nA waiver is required for the Orienteering experience\, and it must be completed by Friday\, August 15 (download the waiver)\nIf you have questions or concerns\, email  Jeremy Wall.\n\n\n10th Grade Retreat Details\nThe focus of the 10th Grade Adventure and Community Building Retreat is Problem Solving. Problem-Solving encourages students and groups to move beyond the comfortable. These challenges are for students to solve together through decision-making\, group goals\, leadership\, and conflict resolution. \nIf you have concerns or questions\, please email Coree Snyder or Jeremy Wall. \nThursday\, August 21; 5:45am-3pm\n\nWhite water rafting with Raft Masters Rafting in Cañon City\nMeet at the school at 5:45am; we return to the school by 3pm\nA waiver is required for this day. Please complete the waiver by Friday\, August 15.\nWhat to bring:\n\nswimsuit/swim trunks (within dress code)\nrafting shoes (NO flip-flops or Crocs)\nwater bottle\nsunscreen\ndry clothing for after rafting\n\n\nLunch is provided (hamburgers or hot dogs and chips) after rafting; if your child has dietary restrictions\, please send your student with a sack lunch\n\nFriday\, August 22; 8am-3pm\n\nHiking at St. Mary’s Glacier\nMeet at the school at 8am; we return to the school by 3pm\nWhat to bring:\n\ncomfortable clothing appropriate for hiking\nshoes appropriate for hiking (boots\, trail runners\, athletic shoes\, etc.; no flip-flops or Crocs)\nwater bottle\nsunscreen and other sun protection\nsack lunch\n\n\n\n\n11th Grade Retreat Details\nThe focus of the 11th Grade Adventure and Community Building Retreat is Challenge. “Challenge by choice” is an important phrase for our upperclassmen. Juniors are challenged to push the limits of what they think they are capable of\, in regard to both adventure and relationships. \nThursday\, August 21-Friday\, August 22\n\nThis is an overnight retreat in Estes Park (YMCA of the Rockies lodge)\nStudents meet at FRCS at 6am on Thursday and arrive back at FRCS on Friday at 3pm\nWhat to bring:\n\nOvernight bag (details shared with students during Junior Seminar)\nFor Via Ferrata: Long shorts or pants\, closed-toe shoes\, hair ties\, extra clothing layers\, water bottle\, sunscreen\nClothes and shoes suitable for hiking\n\n\n\nNotes for parents\n \n\nPlease let Brian Gehr or Jeremy Wall know of any dietary restrictions for your student by Friday\, August 15\nThe guides require a waiver be completed for each student; please complete the waiver by Friday\, August 15\nIf you have questions or concerns\, please email Brian Gehr or Jeremy Wall\n\n\nFRCS Dress Code for Student Experiences\n(Retreats\, J-Terms\, Practicums\, and AWE Outings) \nGeneral Reminder: Students are expected to follow the FRCS Dress Code for all student experiences. The following guidelines provide specific expectations for performance wear for students outings and experiences. \nLadies may wear:\n\nFull-length leggings (shirts must be long enough to cover appropriately).\nSpandex shirts (fitting within the dress code guidelines).\nAthletic tank tops (should have a three-finger minimum width on the straps).\n\nLadies may NOT wear:\n\nShort shorts (must extend at least mid-thigh length).\nShirts or tops that are too revealing or inappropriate for the setting.\n\nGentlemen may wear:\n\nAthletic wear such as workout shorts\, joggers\, and performance shirts.\nFull-length athletic pants or shorts that adhere to the dress code.\n\nGentlemen may NOT wear:\n\nShort shorts (must extend at least mid-thigh length).\nTank tops or sleeveless shirts.
