Amanda Heckman

Educational background and experience:

B.A. in History from Baldwin-Wallace College (Berea, OH) with a background in Adolescent Young Adult education.

I student taught at an all girls Catholic high school in Rocky River, OH (Aug. 2006- Dec. 2006). I also substitute taught in three suburban school systems around Cleveland, OH from January 2007-June 2007.

Why do you teach?

I chose teaching as a career for a couple of reasons. First of all, I love being around kids. I believe the adolescent years can be some of the most challenging years for kids and I would like to make a difference in their lives. I had many positive adult role models throughout my adolescent years that helped me get through those years, and I want to make a difference in kids' lives. The second reason I chose teaching as my profession is because I enjoy learning and I want to instill that same passion for knowledge in my students. My goal is to help my students become life long learners.

Why do you teach at FRCS?

I teach at FRCS because I believe in the mission of the school "to partner with the Christian home in training children for life and equipping them to impact the world for Christ." Partnering with my FRCS colleagues and parents in training children to impact their world for Christ has been absolutely amazing thus far. I have never felt more supported by my fellow colleagues and the students' parents.

What is your passion in life?

My passion in life includes becoming more like Christ and being the best teacher that I can be. Like I mentioned above, I love being around kids and making a difference in their lives.

What are your hobbies and other interests?

My hobbies and interests include spending time with my family and friends, cooking, reading, hiking, biking and working out.
