Jennifer Boyd
Educational background and experience:I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Dual BA in elementary education and special education, focusing on severe and profound disabilities, learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD.I had student teaching and practicum assignments in learning disabled, severe and profound, ADD/ADHD and regular fourth grade classrooms.I substituted for 2 years while I was in college and also provided respite care for children and adults with severe and profound disabilities. Why do you teach?I teach because I believe that God has called me to this form of ministry. Learning was not always easy for me and I wanted to help those who have struggles. I knew that I wanted to work in the special education field when I coached Special Olympics and saw how God reveals himself in people with earthly disabilities. My heart has been changed by God to see the heart of every child rather then their abilities. I also feel as though I am doing my small part in furthering the kingdom of God and that is what we are all called to do.
Why do you teach at FRCS?As I was going through college earning my degree I always felt this sadness that public school were really the only place that students with disabilities could attend. Knowing in my heart that is not what God has intended for every child. I also know that the best love a child can get is from people who love God and are pouring out His love on them. Why do children with special needs not have access to that? When this burden was put on my heart and I was looking for a job I had been offered two jobs in public schools and then I emailed some Christian schools online, one of them being FRCS. I got a quick response from Rogene Lowe and started the interview process. I was obviously hired and I felt so called by God to be here. I knew there was a reason that I didn't feel like I wanted to take those jobs with the public schools I just didn't know why. Now on my third year here at FRCS and seeing and experiencing what God is doing here and the fact that we are constantly seeking his will to meet the needs of ALL learners, I know this is where I belong for this time! I have never worked with a more loving and caring staff! I love coming to work!
What is your passion in life?Truly my passion in life is to love! I know that there are many other professions out there that require that kind of passion but God has put the kind of love in my heart that makes me want to teach and be passionate about teaching. For without love everything I do in life is for nothing (I Cor 13).
What are your hobbies and other interests?I love animals. I have two dogs and two cats! They are like my children. I love spending time with them.I love spending time with my husband! Going for walks, watching movies, watching 24, and just plain enjoying each other. My family is very important to me! I spend as much time as I can be involved in their lives even though they live 2 1/2 hours away.I like to scrapbook and pretty much do anything that involves crafty things, like cross stitching and sewing.
